Aquagenic Urticaria

The Rare Condition Known as Aquagenic Urticaria

Aquagenic urticaria is a very rare form of hives that does not really affect that many people at all. The people who it does affect, however, are very unfortunate.

This condition is something that can be very disabling for people who it affects. When you have this type of hives, you will find that the hives are actually caused by the exposure to water.

The hives usually happen within just a few moments of being exposed to the water. You can even have them for a few hours after the exposure. For the most part, water that has additives is more apt to give you the hives.

Sensitive skin is more prone to this aquagenic urticaria than other skin. If you find that your skin is sensitive to water and the additives that can be found in the water, then you may have this condition. Not too many people have this condition.

Determining if you have this is usually not hard to do. If you put some tap water along with some distilled water on your skin and look at the ways that it reacts with your skin, then you will be able to tell if it is a condition that you have or not.

There are some great treatment options for people who have aquagenic urticaria. Sometimes using topical creams can be a great way to get rid of the hives. While antihistamines are usually used for the treatment of hives, it is not usually used for this particular type because it has never proven to have any effect whatsoever on the skin.

If it is not helpful, then there is no reason to use it to treat the condition. Take the time to learn more about the different creams that are available to treat this type of skin condition.
