More About Light (Solar) Urticaria
Light (solar) urticaria is a form a hives that is caused by exposure to the sun. Sometimes it can be caused by
overexposure, and sometimes it does not need a lot of exposure to the sun at all.
It really just depends on the sensitivity of the skin. This type of hives is a physical form of hives. It is also
something that is considered to be a chronic condition. The symptoms that you get are not usually like something
that you would get from having a sun burn.
They are usually more hive like, with itching and burning.
When you have the condition known as light (solar) urticaria, then you probably know that it can be hard to
diagnose. You must have a series of tests done in order to see if you have it. You often have to have something
called a photo test, which is done by your physician.
There are a lot of different things that you can take to help take control of the different symptoms that may be a
result of this light (solar) urticaria.
You may find that taking antihistamines can be a great way to reduce the symptoms. Using sunscreen is a great way
to help prevent the symptoms. It will help your skin to not have as much sun exposure, therefore cutting down on
your risk of the hives.
Staying out of the sun is another way to stay away from this type of hives. You are sure to not be affected if you
are never out in the sun, but this can be a difficult thing to do on a constant basis. Photo hardening is another
way to help prevent this. It is something that can also be called creating a callous on your skin to the
sensitivity to light.
