What is a Hives Rash?
Hives rash is a raised red and itchy collection of lumps which appear on the skin
skin in either localised areas of the body or sometimes over the whole body.
Hives rash or urticaria to the condition its medical name, can take 2 terms or types
the first being known as ordinary hives (urticaria the second being physical hives (urticaria).
Both ordinary and physical hives have two distinct patterns known as acute and
chronic.
Acute Ordinary Urticaria (Hives Rash).
Is normally associated with an allergic reaction to an allergen, this could be
something like an insect bite, latex or chemicals, often specific foods can be to blame such as strawberries or
perhaps shellfish.
Chronic Ordinary Urticaria (Hives Rash).
Chronic hives rash is usually only diagnosed after a period of 6 weeks or more, or if
the hives rash outbreaks keep appearing for long periods of time.
For both acute and chronic hives there are several drugs which may be to blame, such
as penicillin, aspirin and other common pain killers/
How are Hives Treated?
An acute hives rash is normally easier to treat than that of the chronic variety.
The main treatment for hives rash s antihistamine, these range in quality and the way
they work.
Your doctor will probably prescribe a H1 antihistamine, while the antihistamine you
might buy over the counter at your local pharmacist will be a Ha blocker.
Personally I found that by combining both the prescribed H1 and the over the counter
H2 antihistamine I could gain far faster results than if taking only one or the other.
